- Bites (animal/human) : Wash the wound with water. Cover it with sterile gauze. Call physician for advice.
- Broken Bone : Seek emergency medical care. Do not try to straighten the limb.
- Bruises : Wet a clean washcloth in cold water and wring it out. Gently apply it to the bruise.
- Burns (minor) : Immediately run cold water on the burn for about five minutes.
- Burns (serious) : Go to the hospital or call an ambulance. Do not try to remove burned clothing.
- Cuts and Scrapes : Apply direct pressure to stop bleeding. Wash the wound, then apply antiseptic and a bandage. For deep cuts, seek medical help.
- Foreign Object In Eye : Gently pull the lower lid down while the person looks up. If you can see the object, lightly touch it with the corner of a clean cloth to remove it. If you can't remove it, seek medical help.
- Nosebleed : Keep the person seated and leaning forward. (Do not tilt the head back, as this may cause choking.) Apply direct pressure on the bleeding nostril for 10 minutes.
- Poisoning : Call the poison control center immediately. Report the name of the substance and the amount swallowed. Follow the instruction you are given. If you are told to go to the hospital, take the container along.
- Sprains : Apply ice to reduce any swelling. Wrap the injured limb in an elastic bandage and keep it elevated. Consult a physician if necessary.
